🌿 MATCHA FLAVOR WHEEL
Introducing the Matcha Flavor Wheel
The language of flavor can be surprisingly complex — words like “sweet,” “fresh,” or “candy-like” may mean different things to different people. That’s why our sensory team developed the Matcha Flavor Wheel: a tool designed to standardize how we describe the taste of matcha. This is the first step in building a Flavor Dictionary, aimed at creating a shared language between internal teams and customers during product development.
Why Does It Matter?
- Unified Language: Helps flavor experts and customers better understand each other.
- Faster Development: Clear communication shortens the time to market.
- Deeper Flavor Exploration: Matcha isn’t just “bitter” — it can be “umami,” “sweet,” “herbal,” or even “green vegetable”-like.
The wheel categorizes matcha flavors into 8 groups: sweet, bitter, umami, green vegetable, herbal, fruity, floral, and roasted. Each group represents a distinct nuance, helping you describe your tasting experience more precisely.
Download the Matcha Flavor Wheel and use it as a practical tool when working with us to develop the flavor profile of your product.
